ANC 1C is proud to announce the following grants to organizations serving the Adams Morgan Community and its residents. Each of these programs contributes to the overall betterment of our community and the individuals we serve.

Grant Amount: $1,000 Date Passed: February, 2011
A non-profit program that will enable students at the Marie Reed Elementary School to enjoy live performances of music from around the world. The focus this year will be on Chinese, Peruvian, Persian, Indian, Latin and African American music forms. Choral and instrumental music demonstrations and instruction are part of the program and HD Cooke is developing a music partnership program with Chime in the coming months. |

Grant Amount: $1,000 Date Passed: May, 2011
Provides food preparation training or classes to marginalized job seekers with marketable skills in the ever growing food service industry. The positions are entry level and the majority of the trainees are from the Adams Morgan community. Those who complete the program are placed in positions in the private sector many right here in the Adams Morgan community.

Grant Amount: $1,000 Date Passed: May, 2011
A unique program that is designed to broaden self awareness and self reliance among young girls ages 8-13. Our ANC’s grant will provide scholarships to young girls at Oyster Adams Bilingual school and Marie Reed to allow each of them to train and participate in 5K races. Expenses for the program include cost of the race venue, running equipment and other training supplies. Those who have participated in the program are reported to experience higher levels of self esteem and self awareness which contributes to better overall academic performance and school conduct.

This program will allow students at Marie Reed Elementary School to document their work creating “community quilts” which will capture the history of the Adams Morgan Community. The cameras will record the images and words of community members and the daily effort of the students in making the quilts during the summer program. The digital record of their efforts will be made available to the ANC and the Adams Morgan community. |
